Ready to Switch to Clean Beauty? Start Here!

clean makeup, skincare

For anyone who’s followed me for even the shortest amount of time, it’s pretty clear that I’m a clean beauty believer. From my skincare to my makeup, I strive to use the cleanest of products; I’m not 100% perfect though, and I don’t want to claim to be! The quality and effectiveness of a product is just as important to me as the ingredients used.

I’ve had skin issues in the past and it has taken a lot of trial and error to find the products that serve my skin the best, weighing all factors, from price to level of effectiveness to the ingredients inside the bottle. But by taking my time, I’ve settled on solid routines that I stand confidently by today (I talk more about my current skincare routines here!).

Eager to dive into the clean beauty world but not sure where to begin? It’s OK! Let me offer up myself as a guide so it’s less intimidating and more enjoyable. I’m not an esthetician or a makeup artist by any means, but I love to research and try different brands and products – and love sharing what I’ve gathered over the years (seriously, I could talk skincare and beauty all day longggggg)!

While there may be some people who can overhaul their entire bathroom cabinets and restock them with 100% clean products overnight, that’s just not in the cards for most of us. The cost would be immense and the possibility of waste could be high. The journey into clean beauty doesn’t need to be a one and done moment, and I can say from personal experience, that it’s almost better to take your time!

I always encourage friends to slowly but surely transition their bathroom into one that boosts products with clean and clear ingredients. I typically swap over my products one at a time, giving me the opportunity to use up what I currently have as I read up on what product I’d like to switch to instead.

Starting from square one? There are a few products that are great to begin the process with. Start by considering what you use most frequently (in most instances, you go through these bottles the fastest anyways so you’ll be in the market for a new one sooner rather than later anyways). For many of us, this is our facial cleansers and/or moisturizers. As you finish up these daily items, start looking into clean replacements.

A few I recommend (I have dry skin…so be sure to find products that align with your skin type):

Cleansers:

01. Tata Harper’s Oil Cleanser

02. Follain’s Hydrating Cleanser (budget-friendly option)

03. Farmaesthetics’ Herbal Cleanser

Moisturizers:

01. Follain’s Replish & Protect Moisturizer

02. Tata Harper’s Illuminating Moisturizer

03. Indie Lee’s Squalane Facial Oil

Another one of the best ways to start testing out the clean beauty world is with your makeup! I think that it’s taken a bit longer to see better clean makeup products on the market (compared to skincare), but I’m now discovering more and more makeup brands and it’s fantastic – and so fun!

I’m excited to introduce you all to my newest clean makeup find: Ere Perez

Ere Perez, the woman herself, began her holistic beauty line 15 years ago in Australia, where she still lives today. Her company has created products that are beyond luxurious (the branding and packaging are GORGEOUS), uncomplicated, and help your skin glow. And it’s affordable, making it a win-win situation.

I’ve recently been using a few of their beautiful products, and I’m hooked. Along with my trusted Ilia, these Ere Perez makeup products have made my clean makeup transition so much more easier and enjoyable.

The Jojoba Eye Pencil goes on SO smoothly, and I find it to be really gentle on the sensitive eye area. I’ve also been playing around with their Chamomile Eye Palette, which is also so gentle and soothing, and the colors are beautiful. I always struggle though to get my eyeshadow to last all day; anyone have an awesome primer recommendation??

The Ere Perez Natural Almond Mascara rounds out my eye makeup routine perfectly with only a few swipes; it enhances my lashes without looking too forced or dramatic.

The Rice Powder Blush and Bronzer have been giving me that amazing summer glow… even through the beginning of fall, and as my time spent outdoors is decreasing daily. These powders don’t clog pores and I swear my skin looks better even when they aren’t on my face; they’re still helping improve the quality of my skin.

I’m excited to try the Beetroot Cheek and Lip Tint next; it looks so beautifully bright and refreshing!

I’m finding it to be such a fun experience as I try out new clean makeup brands and would love to hear if you are discovering any gems as well! How far into the clean beauty transition are you? Struggling with it at all? Let me know; I’m happy to help in any way, with any and all recommendations!
