Getting our Terrace Ready for Summer

May 27, 2021

We are excited to finally take off the covers on our outdoor furniture and get everything ready for lots of evenings dining al fresco. Thanks to our friends at Modern Pest, who are sponsoring this post, we can actually enjoy entertaining outside (more on that below!).

I’m currently bookmarking Eyeswoon’s grilling recipes and can’t wait to try them. Anyone else? Since we only get so many beautiful days in New England, we like to take advantage of them by utilizing our newly designed outdoor terrace.

Last year, we had issues with pests like mosquitos and beetles that made it unbearable for us to eat outside. Not to be dramatic. 🙂 This year, I’m thrilled we are partnering with Modern Pest and it truly couldn’t be a better fit as my husband, Cody, and I were just discussing how we were going to approach keeping pests away while also making sure we were being kind to the environment and our plants.

Here’s how we prepped our terrace for the season:

  1. First thing we did to get our terrace ready for patio season was we removed all of our furniture covers and vacuumed the cushions. We planned to launder them, but they were in really good condition when we removed the covers so we will do that at the end of this season.
  1. Then, we power washed our pavers after everything started to bloom as we had a lot of pollen, dirt, etc. and everything needed a good wash. If you’ve never used a power washer, you’re really missing out. 😉 It’s so satisfying and I’m so glad we invested in one.
  1. After that, we cleaned all the surfaces, cut the grass, and wipe down the patio doors/windows. We really need to wash all of our windows.
  1. And of course, we had our lovely friends at Modern Pest visit to do their scheduled Organic Service to rid our home of unwanted pests like mosquitoes and ticks (among others!)

We really appreciate that Modern Pest offers a HomeCare Organic service where we can rest easy knowing that our home is being guarded against pests with safe pesticides derived from plant oils. They are biodegradable and won’t build up in the environment so it’s safe for the earth as well as our kids who play out here often.

This section of the Modern Pest about page made me feel really good about our decision to work with them:

“As a company that utilizes EPA-registered pesticides, education about material usage and product safety, as well as proper application procedures are mandatory for all of our service professionals. We take a “green” approach to pest management and our priority is resolving your pest issue quickly, effectively and with low environmental impact. We do this by using the least-toxic, lowest-risk materials available, practicing integrated pest management (IPM) methods to reduce pesticide usage and employing preventative measures whenever possible.”

We loved working with Modern Pest as they made the process seamless. It was easy to schedule our appointments and they sent reminders via text which helps this busy mama A LOT.
