This was written in collaboration with Garnet Hill, a brand I love and am always excited to share on here. Thank you for supporting brands that support Oh, I Design.
We moved into our home over a year and a half ago, and while we’ve worked on updating lighting, the front, and backyard renovation (before & after post coming in the Spring), and completed some painting, we haven’t had the opportunity to dive into our master bedroom…and for the time being, that was just fine! The furniture from our previous home fit decently and the wall color was fine for now (it’s Revere Pewter, the shade that the builder used throughout the house).
But guess what? I’m gettin’ the itch to start fixin’ it up a bit. I’m eager to make our bedroom feel more like us, to transform it into more of an actual “retreat” from the daily chaos of life these days. The outside world is loud – and so is my inside world with two kiddos – so turning different spaces into “retreats” is one of my main aspirational design goals.
There are a lot of pieces of the room that are already working to our advantage: first and foremost, the amount of natural light that pours in is pure bliss. Our master bedroom windows look over our newly renovated backyard and I love being able to look out and soak up our hard work. The layout of the space is great for us as well, it’s not too big that it’s overwhelming but not too confined either.
Cody’s dresser is perfect, no need to hunt for anything new there. It’s vintage and we found it on Etsy and he and I both love it (win-win). Lastly, we won’t be changing up the area of our bedroom with the large mirror and plant anytime soon. I already adore this little nook and wouldn’t want to tweak it at all!
There are quite a few things I would like to change though and my mind has been churning. So when Garnet Hill released their latest fall collection, I took it as the perfect push to start dreaming up some bedroom updates!
As soon as I saw the Eileen Fisher Linen Bedding (I’m obsessed with her linen from Garnet Hill), I knew it was what our bedroom needed to start transforming it into the retreat Cody and I both desire. It’s beyond soft and I’m in love with the Blue Smoke color.
For our duvet and pillows, I decided to add a little tiny touch of pattern with their Cottage Stripe Relaxed-Linen. It definitely has a coastal feel so I do want to lighten the bed and take away some of the more mid-century pieces we currently have.
I’m loving our bedding with every sleep we have in them and excited to enjoy these new sets far beyond fall. The quality is absolutely supreme, and they are the perfect layering pieces no matter what the season calls for!
So while I may have the bedding situation taken care of, I’m still dreaming up ideas for the rest of the room. From a new bed to a pulled-together furniture and styling situation, I’m thinking I can create quite the mini retreat.
Stay tuned – lots of fun happenings in the near future!
