I have quite a list of goals for myself for 2020, both personally and professionally, but one of the more exciting and downright fun ones? Reading as much as I can! It’s one of those resolutions I think about year after year but rarely make much steady progress with, and I intend to change that pattern in 2020.
Reading brings me so much joy, I’m determined to make it a habit this year. My schedule is pretty busy so I find the best time for me to read is when I’m in bed after putting the kiddos to sleep. I typically fall asleep before I make it to 20 pages, but it’s still the best time for me to actually read. I also love reading during nap time on the weekends and when we’re on vacation. If I’m reading in bed, I always use my handy book light. I know, I’m a nerd.
I’ve already made some headway into my mission and completed two books so far! I started off the year with a fun chick-lit novel When Life Gives you Lululemons, then dove into The Woman in the Window (cannot wait for the movie to come out!). I also finished The Last Guest House before the New Year and it was really good as well.
I’m currently in the middle of All the Light We Cannot See and so far, I’m really liking it. It’s taking me longer to get through than the first two books I read this year because it’s taking some time for me to get used to this author’s writing style.
Here are the books on my eager-to-read list for the coming months:
- The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo
- Lilac Girls
- Educated
- Where the Crawdads Sing
- Paris Architect
- The Secrets We Kept
- Great at Work
- Essentialism
- Save Me the Plums
- Inconspicuous Consumption
- The Dinner
- Such a Fun Age
Please let me know what I should add to my list!
Though it’s super convenient to purchase through Amazon (I’m guilty just as much as the next person), I always highly recommend visiting your local bookstore; there’s nothing better than discovering new books in a cute book shop. A couple of my absolute favorite bookstores are Brookline Booksmith, not too far away from my home, and The Yankee Bookshop in Woodstock, VT.
How fun would it be if there was a group of us who all read the same book together, a little OID Book Club?! My husband, Cody, is in a book club with some local Boston guys and I’m always jealous when they meet up (they actually discuss the book and it makes me so happy). 😉
I’d LOVE to hear what your reading goals and routines are! And what books do I need to add to my must-read list ASAP!?
