Welcome to Alison’s bedroom design.
Here are a few questions I asked Alison before starting the design concept:
Explain the existing room to me: wood floors or carpet? What color are the walls? How many windows? Dimensions?
a: Carpet (beige), walls are also a beige color, 1 pretty big window, not exactly sure of the dimensions but I will provide a picture of the floor plan.
What do you already have furniture and accessory-wise that you would like to keep?
a: I have my bed, black headboard, white night stand, brown little table, green chair, white desk, silver mirror, wooden chair, and 2 distressed wooden frames
What do you need furniture wise for your room? (for ex: desk, chairs, lighting, etc.)
a: I need decor! Cute ideas to put on my wall, table, make it look more homey and not so blah. Space/wall fillers!
What would you like your room to convey?
a: I would like it convey a romantic, girly feel with a hint of modern.
What are 5 words to describe your fashion style?
a: Girly, earth-tones, antique, simple, classic
When you are in your room, what do you spend most of your time doing? *getting ready, at your desk, etc?
a: I spend most of my time in my room getting ready and lounging.
Name a couple of colors you would like to see in your room.
a: I have a lot of green, blue, and creme in my room. I would like to see maybe a coral or something that could put a girlier/softer touch to it.
My concept: Fortunately, Alison is one of my best friends so I already knew her style. And, seeing that she has great taste, she already had some pieces we could work with. Being that she just graduated from college, it was also essential to keep budget in mind.
My main focus was to bring some life to the blank walls and the large window. If there is one thing that will add character to a room it is drapery. I chose the sheer orange curtains for a pop of color and to add more natural light. To add height to the room, the curtains will be from floor to ceiling.
To fill the blank walls, I chose two sconces to put on either side of her bed – functional AND aesthetic. I also chose a shelf to center between her bed and the turquoise sweep chair. Above the bed, Alison already owns a beautiful headboard which will help fill some wall space. All accessories were selected to punctuate Alison’s personality. Throw in some candles and throw pillows and immediately capture the essence of a romantic/girly motif. The ladder chosen for the design is a more modern way to aesthetically display books and other accessories.
Other items I am going to incorporate into the design are two pieces of art done by yours truly. They will look similar to this beauty:
Hope you all enjoyed the design I came up with and if you need any assistance with decor – I’m your girl. Please leave comments about what you like or maybe did not like about my concept.
