When you only have a few days in a new city, you don’t want to waste time finding places to eat and things to do during your stay. Recently we had the pleasure of hosting two of our best friends from Dallas, Katie and Ryan Roberts. If you follow me on instagram you probably saw a few photos from the eventful weekend in Boston. I wanted to share a little guide to what made our weekend so successful. I hope you enjoy!
DAY ONE // Katie + Ryan arrived around lunch time so we walked from our place (near Beacon Hill) to the ever so charming Charles St. to grab lunch at Figs. Then we walked to The Public Garden + Boston Commons where they were able see some beautiful brownstones, greenery and the pond. Although I don’t necessarily recommend stopping for more than a drink, it’s fun to see where the Cheers bar is and snap a photo. Also, no one knows your name…Then we started the Freedom Trail at the Commons.During the freedom trail, you can stop at any point to grab a drink or shop (since we didn’t do a guided tour). We decided to stop at the pub where you can drink a cold Sam Adams while looking at the cemetery where there is a cold Sam Adams. Get the joke? 😉 Beantown PubTip: When your friends want to go into oncoming traffic to snap photos of signs…you let them…and then take photos of them…and make sure they don’t get hit by a car. After we left Beantown Pub, we continued on The Freedom Trail – saw Paul Revere’s house and the beautiful streets of the North End …then we decided not to continue the trail and stopped for a glass of wine at The Bell in Hand Tavern. (talk about drinking our way through Boston…oops).
Dinner consisted of oysters, more wine, mussels, THE BEST BREAD PUDDING OF YOUR LIFE at Citizen Public House near Fenway Park.
& then stayed up late chatting and reminiscing. I love good friends.
*talk about a successful first day – they saw Beacon Hill, The Commons + Public Garden, The Old State House, The Capitol, Paul Revere’s House, Fenway Park, The North End, where Sam Adams is buried…all in one afternoon. All in about a 2 mile walking distance.
DAY TWO // Since we stayed up late, coffee was a must…and so was taking a 30 minute break to take fun photos in the streets of Beacon Hill. Sorry Cody + Ryan. 🙂
Cutie booties…on our way to lunch at The Met.After a yummy lunch, we walked over to the Boston Public Library and then ventured to the farmer’s market that was happening in front of the gorgeous Trinity Church. I had took a photo of the colorful berries…because well, they were so colorful and instagram-worthy. Is that one yellow berry killing anyone else? After we walked around for a bit in the Copley area, we went over a couple of blocks to meet one of Ryan’s colleagues at The Thinking Cup for an afternoon pick me up! One of my favorite coffee shops in Boston 🙂After coffee, we walked up and down Newbury St. and stopped in Goorin Bros. to try on some hats…. then they poured us a dark and stormy…then we purchased two hats (pictured in a few photos below). Nice sales tactic….eh?! 😉 We finished the day with taking the subway back to the house to regroup before dinner at BarLola for tapas and sangria!
DAY THREE // we decided to split and do girl stuff/boy stuff….aka shopping/martinis and golf/college football. Katie and I started our day with brunch at the Beacon Hill Hotel + Bistro. I highly recommend their eggs benedict and their scrambled eggs with salmon. So good!! Then we went to The Prudential Center to walk around and do a little window shopping. After we walked around, we decided to grab a martini at Oak Long Bar in The Fairmont Copley Hotel. The architecture and decor is gorgeous and the martinis are phenomenal. Such a great spot! After leaving a little tipsy…. we left to meet back up with the guys to venture to a friend’s house in Somerville for a backyard shindig (Pig Roast to be exact). Yes, you read that correctly. There were a TON of people and all of the food and drinks (it was amazing) and all to benefit a local charity called Lovin’ Spoonfuls. We went straight to bed….again, full and happy. 😉
DAY FOUR // This was our “let’s get in the car and go explore” day on the itinerary. At the beginning of our drive we stopped at a little coffee shop in Salem, NH called Coffee Coffee where I had the best latte of my life, a lox bagel and ice cream. This little hole in the wall shop was literally my dream for breakfast…peppermint ice cream for the road?! I would be here everyday if we lived closer. We got back on the road to go drive along the Kancamagus Highway for some Fall Foliage views and as we got closer, we decided we should stop and get some meat + cheese for a little makeshift picnic. We stopped at all of the scenic viewpoints (the only downfall was that they were all SO packed with people). But here are some photos of the gorgeous views: The group – being crazy. On our way home we stopped at a local brewery in NH and then drove back home singing country songs, because that’s what you do when your friends are in town from Texas ;). On the way, we made reservations at Trattoria di Monica for dinner (YUMMMM!). We went to bed full, exhausted and so very happy.
DAY FIVE // we ended their trip with an early morning walk along the Charles River and a coffee in Beacon Hill. Talk about one heck of a weekend! It’s always such a breath of fresh air when we get to reunite with our best friends. You know the friends that you basically pick up right where you left off with…that just get you and that you can be yourself with?? Those are the friends you have to hold on to for the long run because those are the friends that make life so much fun.
ps. this is what is on our list for their next visit: Visit a museum, go to the Barking Crab, Cape Cod, drive to Portland, ME.
pss. I know this was a longer post for me, so thank you for sticking with me. Seriously you guys, I am falling more and more in love with this city. Cody and I are about to hit two big ONE YEAR anniversaries…(our wedding and living in Boston). Both are an exciting thing to celebrate and I will post more on this later. 🙂
Happy Monday, Everyone!
