I am SO excited to share the next Coffee with… post with you! My incredibly talented studiomate and friend, Kathryn Yee of Bash Studio, recently began an endeavor that I have been so lucky to be able to experience from behind the scenes and am thrilled to share it with you today. Before we jump right in, I want to formally introduce you to Kathryn! She is the owner of Bash Studio in Boston where she creates styled private events and experiences – she is hands down one of the most talented and motivated women I have met to date. I feel so lucky to share a studio space with her – we are also collaborating on an upcoming project (which we will share details soon)! Now, without further ado, here is Kathryn to introduce her new product – The Everyday Napkin.
1. What is The Everyday Napkin?
The Everyday Napkin is a simple, stylish and reusable cloth napkin designed for any meal, no special occasion necessary!
2. What inspired you to create The Everyday Napkin?
I was creating small cloth napkins for a client’s in-store event and a light bulb went on! After the event, I took them home, washed them and found they were great for every day . . . My fiancé and I stopped buying paper napkins and would only use cloth for a few reasons . . . I couldn’t bare to look at our trash can and see paper towels and napkins hardly used and cloth just feels nicer on your hands and face. But I found cloth napkins are really designed for formal dinners and took up a lot of space which we don’t have much of in the city. These napkins from the event were just want my fiancé and I needed. With some modifications from the original, they are now the perfect size.
3. Tell us a little bit about the process of creating the napkin? What made you choose the size, colors, and fabrics?
I love to hunt and gather so I do this to find the perfect fabrics for each collection. They have to feel good and look nice which is tough criteria but just perfect when I can find fabric that is both functional and stylish. The size comes directly from the size of a disposable paper napkin. Sometimes you think you need something larger because it gives you a sense of comfort or familiarity but we think you really don’t need much more than a 6.5” square.
4. What are some creative ways you are seeing people use their napkins?
What’s great about The Everyday Napkin is that it’s a simple every day product you can use however it fits your life the best. I’ve had a few mom’s buying them specifically for their kids’ lunch boxes. When we get out of this winter weather, I look forward to seeing our fans taking them on day trips to the beach, on a hike, picnic or road trip! They are great for on-the-go and travel too. Maura, who helps with my social community efforts, has a handful in her purse at a time! I use them with my breakfast and mid-day snack. We also use them every night at dinner time. And something that I didn’t expect is that we have a number of gents who put them in their shirt pocket and use it throughout the day! My fiancé is our biggest advocate!
5. What’s next for The Everyday Napkin?
We are in the process of pulling together a Pop-Up Shop Tour that will launch at West Elm on Saturday March 14th and we are so excited about it! West Elm is the perfect alignment for us. It will be followed by a special Shop for a Cause Pop-up with Pop & Circumstance on Saturday, March 28th where we will release a new spring line! Then we’ll kick off April with a Pop-up Shop at Olives & Grace. There is a lot in store so we hope you’ll stay tuned!
