I am feeling a little tired (but also really good) after a full weekend of home projects as we prepare for our new house guest, one of my best friends from San Diego that is relocating to Boston. I cannot contain my excitement for her arrival! One thing is for sure, when you know you have guests coming, it’s definitely the kick in the butt you need for getting projects done around the home!
We replaced a lot of window treatments, pulled everything out of our basement storage area and swept/mopped, added steel shelves and re-organized, donated a lot of items that weren’t jiving with the new look I am going for, etc. It is so rejuvenating to get organized and on top of your home. Right? Here is a little recap:
I finally set up my home office after a last minute decision to move it from the guest room to our master. I hesitated because I think it’s good to separate work and sleep, however, I plan on keeping this area exactly how you see in the photo above (plus some wall shelves with books + decor). The desk will be used for mostly emailing, blogging and any other tasks on my laptop. I moved all of my interior design samples and items from my studio to our basement on some commercial steel shelving so I can access it anytime I want (more on that in a future post). Anyway, I think my desk was made for this little corner of our bedroom! Success.
I wanted to show you what this corner of our bedroom looked like right after we moved in. Nice green accent wall huh? 😉 I can’t wait to share full on before + after photos of this room! Note: that tiny floor mirror is gone. That’s my cute husband in the background 🙂
Another project we worked on was our windows around the house. Here is a little peek at our guest room (before) and Evie. 😉 We took down those cheap plastic blinds & the mini curtain rod the previous owner put directly on the molding. Can we pause here? It’s kind of crazy how often I see curtain hardware mounted directly on the window molding. Sure, there’s not room on either side of the window to hang the hardware…but putting it about 6-8 inches above the window would’ve made the ceilings feel much higher and it would’ve let in more natural light. Why hide that pretty molding?! I don’t get it. Since we didn’t want to hide the natural light or molding, we decided to go with simple white wood blinds. I think down the road we might switch to roman shades, but for now this is a nice, inexpensive solution. 
Here’s the after of the window. Now we need to fill the holes from the hardware, freshen up our linens (don’t judge the bedding in this photo), add a dresser and wall art. I will do the official before + after on this room in the future. Don’t worry it’s all coming!
